Role Summary
As a Cloud FinOps Software Engineer you are responsible for collecting and analyzing financial information related to the organization’s cloud expenses. You would build and maintain the software that powers business processes such as cost reporting, anomaly detection, and helping in allocating cost components to business units and product lines. You would be able to review the cost data to improve the accuracy of budgets and forecasts for different products and help in creating financial models for engineering project and Go-To-Market decisions. You will work as part of a team to implement and maintain FinOps & Big Data practices and methodologies, with a focus on analyzing cloud usage and spending data to identify areas for cost optimization.
The ideal candidate would have a strong understanding of FinOps, analytics data platform, pipeline, and the AWS ecosystem.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with Finance and Engineering understand project scopes around key FinOps initiatives.
  • Design, build and maintain FinOps data platform and pipeline that process data from various sources.
  • Manage key Financial and Product level data accurately for reporting & business decision making.
  • Build anomaly detection systems and downstream processes that turn the detections to business value.
  • Adopting best analytics data practices to continuously enhancing data quality throughout the system.
  • Monitor ongoing cloud expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities, such as unused or underutilized resources in AWS for all cloud hosted products.
  • Analyze cloud data to identify cost optimization and usage opportunities and create specific action items.
  • Create reports, dashboards and alerts to track spending and usage trends and the potential impact of cost optimizations.
  • Work with Product Engineering teams to understand Cloud business processes and cost drivers.

What You Will Bring

  • 3+ years Python & SQL in a large-scale multi-region cloud production environment
  • 3+ years in designing, building, deploying and managing analytics data platform and pipeline
  • 2+ years in dbt & Analytics Databases (OLAP) like Redshift, ClickHouse
  • Experience with Big Data Systems like Presto, Spark, OLAP
  • Experience with Data Science libraries/tools like spark-family, Airflow, Dagster, pandas, Polars
  • Experience working with best data observability practices preferred
  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure – AWS or other cloud providers, Kubernetes, CloudFormation, Terraform with specifics of cost management and optimization for different cloud resources
  • Proficient with CSV, JSON, Parquet file formats, and their usage in Big Data environments
  • Ability to query, analyze and summarize data efficiently and accurately.
  • Understanding of ML tools likeSageMaker/PyTorch is desired
  • Experience with FinOps preferred
In Canada, the base salary for this role ranges from $101,000 to $169,000. In addition to base salary, we offer additional compensation including bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s specific pay within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including job-related skills, training, location, experience, relevant education, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
