As a Senior Software Engineer within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI (Artificial Intelligence) enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS (Operation Support Systems) offerings.
Azure Cosmos DB is Microsoft’s next generation globally distributed, elastic scale, multi-model cloud database service - designed to enable developers to build planet scale applications. Azure Cosmos DB allows you to elastically scale both throughput and storage across any number of geographical regions with tunable consistency while providing blazing fast read/write performance backed by enterprise grade SLAs (Service Level Agreements).

Responsibilities
- Take ownership of designing and implementing new features for the query engine.
- Evaluate each processing stage to identify and implement enhancements.
- Contribute to the health monitoring of the query service to ensure high availability.
- Troubleshoot user-reported issues, deliver quality solutions, and identify areas for future improvement.
- Collaborate with partner teams and management to address upstream and downstream dependencies.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C / C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience with life cycle of service development, deployment and servicing.
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
- Experience with query engines/query processing.
- Experience with distributed systems and developing in a cloud environment.
- Foundation in data structures, algorithms, and their application in query processing.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
