Overview
We are looking for a Site Designer to join the Marketing Design team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading site-wide design improvements, setting the gold standard of design execution, and transforming a new visual identity into effective user experiences and landing pages. You’ll be working as a senior level individual contributor, creating world-class designs while mentoring other designers on the team and influencing the site design direction as a whole. You know that the best designs require more than just pixels; you’re willing to jump in to copy and development workflows. Collaboration is the key to GitHub’s success, and you will work closely with other designers, project managers, engineers, and marketing team stakeholders to propose design solutions and ensure a successful outcome.
What We’re Looking For
Designers at GitHub are expert individual contributors; they are given a lot of autonomy and trust to work on our most impactful projects. For this specific role, we're looking for someone who values the following:
- Systems thinking: Our team has to apply decisions holistically, making sure to look at new patterns in context to the larger system of the brand, design system, and product, as well as ensuring we support experiences for individual features.
- Inclusive design: GitHub is a home for all developers and our design system brand should reflect that. This means including and learning from people with a range of perspectives. Designing for inclusivity first can lead us to solve problems for the many and open up our product for more people.
- Creating together: Getting to the right result is our focus. This can come from illustrators, designers, or site engineers — and ideally everyone. Facilitating collaboration between teams and individuals is key to continuity across all touchpoints, consistency within our design system and a clear vision and perspective that resonates with the needs of our customers.
- Progress and impact: Our team often works on the meta and so it's easy to get caught up in the design details. We have to be mindful of this and ensure we keep making decisions and moving forward. This means being solutions-oriented and prioritizing progress over correctness when it's the right call, but never sacrificing quality.
- Candidness: We encourage candidness and recognize its role in building trust between managers and reports and with peers and leadership. It can take time and effort to get there, but it's worth it. Making decisions for projects, design patterns, and processes will yield better results when we can get to the “real talk”.

- Collaborate alongside product designers to ensure in-product marketing is consistent and on brand with all site touchpoints
- Polish your designs in code or work directly with engineers to turn your designs into production-ready, systems-based HTML and CSS. (We love to hire designers who can code so there's no back-and-forth handoff with engineering — this helps us move fast!)
- Provide regular, direct and impactful feedback in design and code reviews with your teammates to ensure high-quality execution and continuously up-level the team’s design output
