Google Cloud Storage (GCS) is an object storage system that supports both external Google Cloud Platform (GCP) customers and internal Google services (e.g., YouTube, Drive, Photos, and Gmail). GCS is GCP's largest storage product and a significant contributor to GCP’s business.

The Storage Infrastructure (SI) team is tasked with Durability, Efficiency, Data Management, and Capacity planning responsibilities for GCS. As the Principal Engineer for SI, you will be responsible for key aspects of technical direction and innovation strategy for GCS, with direct impact over critical business objectives.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide the technical outlook and strategy for initiatives and projects in this domain.
  • Design and lead a multi-year technical roadmap, balancing short and long-term technology investments.
  • Develop product roadmap for GCS with Product Managers, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Review technical designs from the team and guide technical discussions.
  • Uphold a culture of technical excellence, innovation, respect, and inclusion.
