High-quality software and Machine Learning requires large-scale infrastructure to validate and train software prototypes and models. The team at Apple on the forefront of building this infrastructure using Apple hardware is looking for a senior level technical engineer with deep network expertise! This exciting role will bring standard processes, knowledge and experience from traditional datacenter operations, and apply those ideas to data centers with thousands of Apple devices. In this role, you’ll have the chance to create, implement, and operate large scale automation and monitoring tools and processes! You’ll have a team of software & operations engineers to develop new solutions, and you’ll work closely with a globally dispersed SRE team to deploy and operate the solutions you develop. You’ll also have the opportunity to influence the design of Apple hardware to ensure it’s fully compatible in high-density deployments and automation. Candidates should have a proven background in network infrastructure architecture and design and will excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and deliver solutions across a complex network. Description
We are looking for a motivated and service oriented individual who loves working on innovative infrastructure. You should enjoy working on multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment that cultivates growth, collaboration and innovation. You are encouraged to work closely with network architects to bring AIML device future network vision to life. You are expected to meet with vendors, draft RFPs, qualify software and hardware, develop solutions, and provide integration plans. You will drive network & security standards and work closely with AIML customers to engineer solutions. Documentation and communication of network, security designs and changes are a priority. Some of your responsibilities may include: - Operating and innovating a geographically distributed device cloud infrastructure, enabling large scale machine learning workflows across Apple - Supervising and mentoring automation engineers and geographically distributed SREs - Applying your strong technical expertise to allow you to work at the micro or macro level - Solving problems and resolving issues in live production environments and implementing strategies to eliminate them - Advocating for automation, believing it plays a significant role in software development and sustenance - Being willing to get into the details; be hands on with hosts and devices to understand and improve reliability
Minimum Qualifications
Solid interpersonal skills are a requirement due to the high level of interaction with engineering teams, management, and other organizations within Apple
Ability to act as a technical leader, assess & design infrastructure network security over worldwide geographically dispersed location
Hands-on understanding of third party cloud providers network security and how to setup verifiably secure links across corporate+vendor sites
In-depth understanding of switching ASICs from multiple providers
Understanding of network operating system architecture and design
Experience with network tuning and optimization (DCTCP, ECN, QoS)
Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP (IPv4 & IPv6) and related large scale network features

Strong background in Cisco, Arista, Nvidia, Nokia, and Juniper routing, switching, and security platforms
In-depth understanding BGP and Ethernet
Design and implementation experience with CLOS networking and SDN
Familiarity of data center structured cabling, fiber plant, power, and cooling
Functional, working knowledge, and ability to code in Ruby and Python
Experience with configuration management platform (Puppet, Ansible, Salt, Chef, etc)
Self-starter, self-motivated, self-directed, and self-sufficient
